Frozen Water Pipes
“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!” That means cold weather and high risk of frozen water pipes. If the water pipes in your home run anywhere without electrical heating, or the heating system fails, they are more prone to freeze.
You may be wondering, “why does this matter?”, or “won’t the water in the pipes eventually melt again?” Here’s what you need to know! Frozen pipes are a danger to your home because they can burst from the high amounts of pressure.
If this happens, water could leak into your house, cause damage to your belongings, or mold could start growing. Here are some tips on preventing a frozen pipe.
1) During winter, turn your thermostat up a few degrees.
2) Open some cabinets in your bathrooms to allow warm air circulation to the pipes in the walls.
3) If water pipes run through the garage, keep the garage doors shut.
